Other Names: New Zealand Oolong Origin: New Zealand, Hamilton, 495 Gordonton Road Harvest: Fall 2009 Taste: These leaves are roasted at high temperatures for a clear aroma and taste, with a hint of fruit and flowers. Behind the Leaf: Zealong started in 1996 when the Chen Family imported 1500 tea seedlings from Taiwan. Due to the strict rules of New Zealand’s Ministry of Agriculture, the seedlings were quarantined for months and only 130 survived. These 130, the strongest of the 1500 were carefuly propagated and spread over the 123 acre farm. The farm is only 100 feet above sea level proving that great tea does not need high elevation to thrive. The tea is grown naturally, without chemical sprays, fertilizers, additives or other contaminants. Additionally, a strict quality-assurance system has been implemented that meets the ISO22000 standard. This tea is tended and picked by hand, and is processed to the world’s most stringent food safety standards.
