About Zealong

Zealong is quite possibly the purest oolong tea in the world, and it is the only tea grown in New Zealand.

Zealong is grown naturally, without chemical sprays, fertilizers, additives, or other contaminants. Additionally, a strict quality-assurance system has been implemented that meets the ISO22000 standard. This tea is tended and picked by hand, and it is processed to the world’s most stringent food safety standards.

With Zealong tea you can taste the purity since it is designed to be reinfused six, seven or eight times without losing its flavor. The decade of tea is upon us, and the world is getting excited about enjoying the floral aromas and the clean flavour that cleanses the palate with a unique sweetness of oolong tea grown in New Zealand.

Zealong was established in 1996 in Rototuna, Hamilton, when its founder, Vincent Chen, brought 1500 seedlings from Taiwan. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry/Biosecurity New Zealand (MAFBNZ), being one of the strictest in the world, quarantined the seedlings for 10 months. Only 130 of the strongest seedlings survived, and these were planted in New Zealand. Today, one million tea plants are harvested by hand three times per year, on a 120 acre farm in Gordonton.
